How Do I Make a Booking?

Step 1: Fill out the form
Complete the passenger details form in a Word document and attach it to your email.

Step 2: Pre-payment
Pay your deposit and notify us once you’ve made the payment. Our system does not automatically alert us to your payment.

Step 3: Confirm reservation
Check your booking confirmation PDF to ensure all details are correct.

Step 4: Informative session
Join us at our offices the day before your departure at 5:00 PM for your briefing.

Why Do I Need to Come to the Briefing?

The briefing is essential to meet your guide and discuss important details about the excursion. You’ll receive a duffle bag for your gear and have the chance to pay any outstanding balance while getting a map with reservation details.

Can I Leave My Luggage at the Salkantay Trekking Offices?

Yes, you can leave your luggage with us. It will be stored safely and returned to you after your trek.

Is Water Included?

Yes, please bring your own water for the first morning. After that, we’ll provide clean and safe drinking water.

Do I Need to Bring Extra Money for the Trek?

Yes, we recommend bringing 300 to 400 Peruvian soles for emergencies or optional activities, such as hot springs.

How Many People Will Be in My Group?

Groups typically consist of 10 to 12 people, depending on the season. The maximum group size is 12, and the minimum is 2.

What Size Bag Do I Need to Take With Me?

We provide a duffel bag for your gear, accommodating about 7 kilograms. You’ll carry a small day pack for essentials like sunscreen, bug spray, jackets, and snacks.

Will I Have an Opportunity to Charge My Devices During the Trek and Will I Have Wi-Fi?

Yes, you can charge your devices at campsites, though they can’t be left overnight. Wi-Fi is available at some sites for an extra fee.

What Is the Difference Between a Private Tour and Group Tour?

A private tour is tailored to your preferences, allowing you to select who joins you. You’ll have your personal chef and guide, making for a more personalized experience.

Will I Have the Chance to Take Showers During Our Trek? Will I Have Access to Bathrooms?

Showers are available at some campsites:

  • Soraypampa (1st camp): No showers.
  • Collpapampa (2nd camp): Hot showers at no extra cost.
  • Lucmabamba (3rd camp): Hot showers available for an extra fee.
  • Hotel in Aguas Calientes (4th night): Hot showers at no extra cost.
Should I Rent an Extra Horse?

You can rent an extra horse for US$80. This option is available during the first two uphill trekking days, with alternatives for later days.

What Is the Difference Between the 4-Day and 5-Day Trek?

The 5-day trek includes a stretch of the original Inca Trail up to the Llactapata Archaeological Site, providing unique views and opportunities, including optional hot springs.

What Is the Difference Between Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain?

Your tour includes a general entrance ticket for a guided tour of Machu Picchu. An additional ticket for Machu Picchu Mountain is available for $60. This hike offers a 360-degree view but is separate from the main tour.

What Is the Difference Between Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain?
  • Huayna Picchu: A challenging 45-minute hike with stunning views, but spots are limited and often need to be reserved in advance.
  • Machu Picchu Mountain: A 1.5-hour hike with great views that is less crowded, making it a more accessible alternative.

  • The Inca Trail is more crowded and expensive.

What Happens If I Get Altitude Sickness?

Our guides are trained to assist you. If symptoms arise, you may return to Cusco or use alternative transportation during the trek.

Can I Join as a Single Traveler?

Yes, single travelers are welcome and will share accommodations with someone of the same sex. A single hotel room is available for an extra $30.

If I Decide to Cancel, Will I Be Refunded?

No, we have a no-refund policy. All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. Please review our terms and conditions for more details.

What Will the Weather Be Like During the Salkantay Trek?

Weather is unpredictable; expect cold temperatures (around 5°C) on the first night and warmer temperatures (up to 25°C) in the jungle sections.

Why Is There a 5% Charge for PayPal and Visa? Is There Any Way to Avoid This Charge?

This fee is imposed by PayPal and Visa, not us, and cannot be avoided.
